South India Days

Been staying in Bangalore for about 3 months. It's a good place to stay and work. Will share some of the moments I have had with friends and colleague.

With Piyush @ Tito's Lane
One of the best place to be in India. Party mode 24x7 .

Drawing room of the flat where I stay :)
Woke up one day and found it to be quite a peaceful morning. Probably the last time I am going to stay beside a main road. It's crazy out here.

Lunch somewhere in the outskirts of Bangalore
Lunch stop on the way to Belguam.

Saravana's car breaking down @ Jamboti
Everything broke down on the final day. Crazy night it was.  I still loved that VW logo though.

With Rokesh @ Nandi Hills
If only they could allow us to cook and make a good Manipuri picnic up in the hills :)

Traffic view from flat :(
One of those pathetic views of traffic. Why will anyone want to stay here?

With Rokesh @ Mysore wax museum
Went to see Mysore Palace. Saw only the Museum and came back as we did not have VIP pass for Mysore Dusshera. The wax museum is a good idea.  People should check out more often.

Saravana's car towing away to Hubli
Thought they would come in a truck and carry. They came in 407. Uffs!

Bangalore FC vs Johar :)
One of the best nights in Bangalore. Wild atmosphere. The local club won and went to AFC finals. Go Blues. Weeeee!

Hope to have better days ahead. God bless everyone! :)

The story of watermelons by Manohar Parrikar

Found an interesting story from while browsing Facebook. Sharing with everyone :)

“I am from the village of Parra in Goa, hence we are called Parrikars. My village is famous for its watermelons. When I was a child, the farmers would organise a watermelon-eating contest at the end of the harvest season in May. All the kids would be invited to eat as many watermelons as they wanted. Years later, I went to IIT Mumbai to study engineering. I went back to my village after 6.5 years. I went to the market looking for watermelons. They were all gone. The ones that were there were so small.

I went to see the farmer who hosted the watermelon-eating contest. His son had taken over. He would host the contest but there was a difference. When the older farmer gave us watermelons to eat he would ask us to spit out the seeds into a bowl. We were told not to bite into the seeds. He was collecting the seeds for his next crop. We were unpaid child laborers, actually. He kept his best watermelons for the contest and he got the best seeds which would yield even bigger watermelons the next year. His son, when he took over, realized that the larger watermelons would fetch more money in the market so he sold the larger ones and kept the smaller ones for the contest. The next year, the watermelons were smaller, the year later even small. In watermelons the generation is one year.
In seven years, Parra’s best watermelons were finished. In humans, generations change after 25 years. It will take us 200 years to figure what we were doing wrong while educating our children.”

Elephanta Island

It's been quite a long time I haven't visited any heritage site in India. Had a chance to visit Agra (Taj Mahal) during the 4th semester with my room partners but couldn't go due to some reasons.

Now that I am in Mumbai for some days, I found out that there are few places I can visit which will help me know a different side of Mumbai. Elephanta Island was one of them.

One of the interesting part about visiting Elephanta Island was the ride of ferry from Gateway of India to the Island. This was the first time I was on a ferry ride and the experience was a refreshing one.

Have captured some moments from our sightings. Here it goes -

Elephanta Cave 3

Overall the sighting was enjoyable. Someone should have told us before that we have to climb a huge numbers of stairs before reaching the caves. By the time we reached the caves, we were very tired. One mistake we committed was that we had lunch before climbing the stairs. That made the climbing more difficult.

Anyways, it's a good place to visit. If people wants to escape from the buildings and traffic of Mumbai, this is one place I would recommend :)

Income Tax collection of India

Recently, India govt came out with state wise break up of Income tax collected. I was curious to know how my state (Manipur) fared comparing with the rest of states and Union Territories.

Data are as follows:

The collection from Manipur is only 53.31 crores. That is  .0000766 % contribution to Govt of India. It is almost the combined tax collected from Salman, Akshay and Shah Rukh Khan[1]. That small!

The state Sikkim is very small but gives back Rs. 323.88 crores to GoI. Almost 5 times larger than my state.

Overall Maharashtra and Delhi contributes more than 50% of income tax to India. A very surprising data I found interesting was that of the state of Gujarat. When the PM is telling everyone to follow the Gujarat model, the state only contributes 5.3% of income tax.
